That’s right! I did it. I bought my dream car and there’s nothing you can say that will change my mind. What car you ask? It’s a 2014 BMW 750Li! I’ve always wanted a BMW to drive around. It’s been on the top of my list for a long time. I really never thought I would be able to make that dream come true, but low and behold, here we are. I’ve always been somewhat of a car nut. I like cars and I like driving. Yes, I’m also a personal finance blogger who writes about saving money, paying off debt, and growing my wealth. I get it, I probably just crossed the double-standard area, but I’m OK with that. I just got my dream car and I couldn’t be happier. While white wasn’t my first choice, I loved the interior of this car and all of the features. I went with the white one because it had low miles and was just a 2014. Instead of paying full price for a 2015, I was able to score 10% off with one year older. I won’t complain about those savings.
Why Buy a Dream Car?
There is always so much talk about buying a used car that has great value and driving it until it bites the dust. While I get the concept, I don’t like doing it in real life. I love my cars and love the newer safety features of luxury cars. Don’t even get me started with the technology. I’m just waiting for the new luxury cars to make me coffee in the morning and do most of the driving with me just sitting behind the wheel. We can all dream, right?
You’re probably wondering why I would buy such an expensive luxury vehicle and still sit here spouting off about saving money and doing what’s right. Well, I have dreams people and I set goals for myself. Last year, we bought a new house and put 20% down. This year, I wanted to see if I could reach the “dream car” goal. Typically, when I set a goal that I might be able to achieve quickly, I will do anything I can in order to reach that dream. Luckily for me, I have done some good things this past year with my business. It’s growing by leaps and bounds*.

I’ve worked very hard to grow this blog and the business around it. I’ve spent many nights up wondering how I can do this or that. It’s a lot of work running a blog. There is not overnight success when it comes to putting your thoughts down on a blog. Trust me. Either way, buying my dream car is a way to cement that I have done what I set out to do. I created a blog, built a business, and have reached my goal. Yes, I bought a depreciating asset, but it’s still an asset none the less. I love driving finely tuned machines (except for my Jeep) and my new BMW is freaking awesome people. Seriously, it’s one of the top BMW luxury sedans out there. I fell in love with it right when I got in.
Did I Get a Good Deal?
I think I got a pretty good deal. First, I knew I wasn’t going to get a 2015. They are new and you know they drop value right when you drive them off the lot. I wanted one that was certified by BMW and I got it. Since mine only has 4,000 miles, I know there is not a lot of wear and tear on it. The interior looks fantastic and I saved right off the top just because it was a model year older. I’ve been researching this vehicle for some time. I knew what a good deal was, but just to be sure, I used TrueCar.com to give me the insight I needed to know if my deal was good. I love that site for buying cars, so check it out if you’re in the market.
After some haggling with the BMW dealership, I was happy with the price I paid. It was a couple thousand less than the average price point in our area. Luckily, True Car helped me with that number as well. It’s empowering to know that when you walk into a dealership, you’re armed with enough information to make the best deal you can. I feel I did that. The best part is I was able to get payments I could afford. Did you know they have 90 month loans for some cars. Holy crap! Now, I didn’t do that. I went with a more traditional 48-month loan. I put a good amount of money down and I can say the debt I added was worth it.
Now that I have conquered my dream car, I’m going to be driving it day and night and enjoying the crap out of it. I mean, I just bought a 2014 BMW 750Li and I don’t even care. I love the car and wish I did this sooner. What an exciting time for me. I don’t know what my next goal will be, but I’m sure it will have to do with investing and retirement. We only live once, right? This is how I choose to spend my hard earned dollars and I have no regrets. Whoop whoop!!
